Born in Africa, McAllister was later awarded a travelling scholarship and hence studied at Goldsmiths College of Art. She also studied at L’Academia di Belle Arte in Rome. Commissioned by Sylvia Graucob MBE, McAllister created a memorial sculpture for the tragedy of the stadium fire at Bradford City Football Club in 1985. Her work is rarely seen at auction.
