A late-Victorian mahogany-cased games compendium, the lid inset with blank brass plaque, opening to reveal a well-fitted interior housing tooled leather chess/backgammon board, lead horseracing figures, bone dominoes, boxwood draughts pieces etc.

More Information

Box lacks key and is generally knocked and worn externally. Depth and consistency of colour is very good but there are a great many divots and scratches. There's an old split to the rear, beneath the left hinge. The case looks to have been prized open and case is damaged along both edges by the lock as a consequence.
Condition internally is very good. Many elements may be unoriginal - the chess pieces are from a number of sets for example. Leather backgammon/chess board is worn, stained and scuffed. It is of two-part construction, united by a fabric strip.
