GEORGE PARSONAGE MBE (SCOTTISH b.1944)
BEN PARSONAGE ROWING HIS BOAT “BENNIE”
Welded metal, circa 2016, 11 x 17 x 25cm
Artist's note: The basis of the boat is an old piece of steel piping. Nails and bolts were welded and melted together for the body, arms and rowlocks. The rods for the oars were bought in. The blades welded on then hammered into a spoon shape on an anvil. The base was made from an old piece of wood found in the river, dried, cut and cleaned up. The front of the boat is raised to give the impression of speed which Ben Parsonage certainly had when racing to a rescue.
