Our Summer Fine Art & Antiques Auction produced strong results across all departments, signalling a strong appetite for fine works from sought-after artists, designers and craftsmen.
Our Silver & Objects of Vertu department was led by a fabulous model of the Warwick Vase. With fierce online competition and a trench of phone bidders, the vase soared past its estimate, achieving £28,336*. Prices remained strong throughout the section, with an extensive set of Victorian cutlery selling for £5,538*, and two four piece tea services both reaching £2,962*.

Many star pieces were found in our Jewellery department. An opal & diamond metamorphic jewel made by the esteemed Carrington & Co attracted many bidder’s eyes. With the ability to be worn as a tiara or necklet, the sparkling piece sold for £11,592*. Next was a substantial cushion cut diamond ring set with over 3.6 carats of diamonds which achieved a dazzling £9,016*. Accessories such as a fabulous enamelled mesh purse then sold for £7,728*, as well as a 9ct gold cigarette case at £5,152*. A charming micro mosaic pendant depicting a dog sped past it’s estimate, selling for £3,735*.

Pocket watches proved to be popular timepieces in our Watches department. A Full hunter sold for £4,508*, closely followed by another example at £4,121*. A trio of open face pocket watches also achieved strong prices of £4,121*, £3,864* and £3,606*.

Our paintings department featured an array of high-quality works from various periods. Phillipe Pavy’s 19th century depictions of Dancers sold for £4,121* and £3,606*. Going further back in time, an 18th century depiction of Diana the Huntress sold for £3,864* and a mythological scene by Jan Van Neck achieved £3,348*.

Contemporary artists were also sought after. Peter Howson’s Heroic Dosser sold for £4,121*, while landscape scenes from Donald Mcintyre and James Mcintosh Patrick sold for £3,477* and £3,348* respectively.

A varied and colourful Ceramics department produced a plethora of impressive prices. A rare Pulcini glass bird by Alessandro Pianon was fought over a flurry of international bidders. The piece flew to £4,894*, while bird pattern curtains by William Morris produced a strong price of £1,416*. A fearsome pair of Kirin achieved £1,159*, and a superbly painted Worcester Pot Pourri jar by John Freeman sold for £1,803*.

Chinese ceramics also faired well in our Asian & Ethnic Arts department. An impressive pair of Famille Rose canton vases sold for over triple their high estimate, selling for £2,043*. A private single owner collection of blue and white ceramics from various centuries collectively sold for £3,619*. A rare Japanese temple bell also sparked interest, selling for £1,233*.

Our Furniture department’s star lot was a striking Louis XV specimen table. Inlaid with sections of amethyst and agate geodes, after a fierce bidding war the table achieved a top price of £11,592*. A Louis XVI style walnut writing desk achieved £1,416*, while a set of fine Regency dining chairs with a strong provenance also sold for £1,223*.

20th Century Design from famous makers achieved strong market prices, with a psychedelic Howard Keith settee achieving £2,447*, a Niels Moller dining table and chairs for £1,030*, and a Ladderax Modular shelving system for £1,030*.
