A silver Freedom casket

By Vaughton & Sons, Birmingham 1926, of curved rectangular shape, with silk lined interior, the domed detachable lid engraved with ribbons and swags with the Borough of Colne crest enamels on the handle. The body with applied strapwork decoration, a pair of lion’s masks handles and inset with three porcelain panels showing views of a large country house, a church and a cathedral, all on outswept base with four ball feet. Engraved on the base the dedication ‘Presented to Miss Christana Hartley J. P. of Southport, by the Town Council of the Borough of Colne on her admission as an Honorary Freeman of the Borough on the 1st day of June, 1927’, 35.5cm x 19cm x 23.5cm, 95oz approx.
