The First Minister’s Christmas Card Original Artwork up for Auction

Great Western Auctions are delighted to offer the First Minister’s Christmas Card 2015 original artwork in our forthcoming Winter Fine Art and Antiques two-day Auction.

Lot 980. MAIRI HEDDERWICK (Scottish b.1939)
KATIE MORAG AND THE BUTE HOUSE CHRISTMAS PARTY
Watercolour, initialled and dated ’15 , 15 x 21cm ( 6 x 8 1/4″)

The watercolour is accompanied by a signed dedicated photograph from Nicola Sturgeon and a copy of the 2015 Christmas card.

Mairi Hedderwick is the creator, author and illustrator of the series of children’s books whose main character is the feisty young Scottish girl, Katie Morag.
Katie Morag’s adventures, accompanied by Mairi’s beautiful illustrations, are adored by both children and adults.

Mairi was commissioned by the Rt Hon Nicola Sturgeon, Scotland’s First Minister to create the original artwork which would form the image for the First Minister’s Christmas Card 2015.

The picture shows children from around the world being welcomed to the First Minister’s official residence, Bute House in Edinburgh. Nicola can be glimpsed in the background putting finishing touches to the Bute House Christmas tree.

She says “Christmas is a time for spending time with those that we love, but it is also a time for thinking about those less fortunate than ourselves”

Since the launch of the Charity Christmas Card initiative in 2007, sales of the artworks and prints have raised more than £168,850 for good causes across Scotland.

The charities which will benefit from the sale of Mairi Hedderwick’s watercolour are Enable Scotland, the Scottish Refugee Council, Books Abroad and Children 1st.
