18th CENTURY BOOK COLLECTING
A letter addressed to Lady Sabine Winn of Nostell, written in French, from a bookseller, detailing various titles he has found in France which he believes Lady Winn may wish to add to her library at Nostell Priory, West Yorkshire.

Note: Lady Sabine Winn (1734-1798), wife of Roland Winn, 5th Baronet of Nostell. The couple commissioned Thomas Chippendale and Robert Adam to redesign the interior of Nostell Priory, including the library, where Swiss-born Sabine housed her extensive book collection. In spite of her great exertions, Lady Winn never entirely mastered the English language and lived an isolated existence on the couple's Yorkshire estate, in her estimation "one of the most desolate and ill-fated corners of the universe".
