Anita’s Blog October 2019 – FINE SALE SURPRISE!!!!!!!

Our Autumn Fine Art and Antiques Auction in September attracted great interest from buyers in the room, internet online bidding (over 800 potential buyers from the four corners of the world registered to bid) and commission and telephone bidding.

The Auction world is full of amazing surprises. Would you think I had lost my marbles if I told you that a bundle of “jorries” fetched a four figure sum in our sale.

We anticipated strong interest in:
-Wonderful diamond jewellery. Many of our ladies left the auction with a smile on their face and a big rock on their fingers (Girls, you deserve it).
-The selection of Rolex watches for the gentlemen of style (you deserve it too guys)
-Strong internet bidding from the East in Asian and Ethnic items.
-Much competitive bidding in the picture auction with works by major contemporary artists, Glasgow boys, as well as traditional works.
-Continual interest in mid-20th Century British and Scandinavian furniture.
-Solid interest in silver, collectables, military, coins, ceramics and decorative arts.

What was NOT expected and the biggest surprise in the sale was the price of a collection of old marbles!
These 19th Century pocket money purchases, estimated price £300 – £500 achieved the whopping price of £3,200!!!!! (Search through your old toy boxes folks).

Check out results of all lots in the sale in Archive Results on our website.
