Alexander Ritchie & Celtic Jewellery soar high at GWA

Included in our Winter Fine Art & Antiques Auction on Saturday 28th November was a selection of Alexander Ritchie Iona Celtic silver jewellery.

The star lot was the stylish rare example of a silver Celtic cross and chain, the reverse embossed Iona Reginald MacDonald founded abbey 1203 – obit – 1207 (lot 606), which soared past estimate to realise £3,100 (including buyer’s premium).

Bidders on the telephone, online and in the saleroom also bid fiercely for the Ritchie gent’s cufflinks (lot 596) decorated with Viking Longships, which sold above estimate for £595 and the large silver Celtic cross (lot 592), which trebled its estimate and achieved £740.

Alexander Ritchie and Celtic Jewellery are highly desirable and collectors are always searching for early and unusual examples, including penannular brooches, Celtic crosses, cloak fasteners, agate-set brooches and bracelets.
